Mom on the Go

Our featured Mom on the Go this month is the dynamic Dr. Kathie-Ann Joseph.  This Diva Mommy is doing phenomenal things in her field and with her family.  Take a look…

What do you do for a living?

I am a breast surgeon and assistant professor of surgery at NYU Langone Medical Center. I take care of women who have been diagnosed with breast cancer as well as women who are at risk for breast cancer or have other breast abnormalities.

What do you do to relax?

If I have time, a few hours at the spa. But usually a good book will do the trick.

What extra-curricular activities does your family participate in?

I’ve always loved to travel, it’s a great way to learn about other cultures and experience other countries up close. I have two boys and I had no problems travelling with them even when they were quite young. They are now 9 and 13. We’ve been all over the US, including Hawaii but we’ve also been to Brazil, Jamaica, the Virgin Islands, England, Amsterdam and France. We’ve developed some great memories and they’re great travelers.

Just whisper it to us…what’s your secret?

No secret. I have great family and friends I can call on for support.

If you could change something?

I wouldn’t change anything. I love what I do.

How do you balance your business and family life?

It’s constantly a juggling act and I am very fortunately to have help. I try very hard to keep track of my schedule; I would be lost without my PDA! As soon as a meeting or school activity comes up I enter it immediately into my calendar.

What’s your next project?

I’ll be working on next year’s Breast Cancer in Women of Color Conference which will be held in fall 2012 and I am happy we were just awarded a grant from Susan G. Komen NYC to provide yoga therapy to breast cancer patients at Bellevue and Woodhull Hospitals, two city hospitals affiliated with NYU that provide breast cancer care to many poor, underserved and immigrant women.

Words to live by:

Kindness, like a boomerang, always returns

She’s just like us because…

Nobody knows I…

I’m a reality TV show junkie! But I am weaning myself off of them. There are too many Housewives franchises to keep up with! If my residents can’t converse with me in the OR about NeNe, Teresa Giudice, Camille, or Jill it’s going to be a long day. Dare I even mention the Basketball Housewives ?

I’m a Diva because…

I love my boys. They mean the world to me.
